In 1973 when the Oak Ridge Boys were beginning to make their transition from gospel to country, The Singing Americans were signed by the prestigious Lou Wills Hildreth Agency in Nashville. In an article announcing the signing, The Singing News predicted that based on their sound and popularity, that The Singing Americans would take the Oak Ridge Boys spot as the number one quartet in gospel music. Unfortunately, their owner, Homer Wadford had a different sound in mind, and wanted to see the group move in a different direction stylistically. In 1980, the group was sold to Charles Burke, who later went on to own the Kingsmen Quartet name for a few years, and obtained all new personnel with Mark Flaker singing tenor, Charles Surratt singing baritone, Ed Crawford singing Lead, and Charles Burke's son, Dwayne, singing bass. Mark Flaker left later that year and was replaced by Danny Funderburk. Ed Crwaford left and was replaced by Michael English, who would leave for a couple years and be replaced by Ivan Parker, and then Clayton Inman. Also, in 1982, Surrat would leave and be replaced by Southern Gospel legend, Ed Hill. When Michael English left for the second time in 1985, he was replaced again by Clayton Inman, who would replace Hill in 1987 in the baritone spot, leaving the lead open for Scott Whitener. The 1990s started a decline in the popularity of the Singing Americans, but it did not mean they still weren't capable of producing popular singers. David Sutton and Taylor Barnes passed through the group during this time. Finally, in 1993, the Singing Americans produced their final album, \"Live from Chicago\", before retiring in 1994. Yet this album just sowed up on the scene as a surprise. If you were expecting more glam metal, like Trixter or Poison, this was much closer to Guns and Roses meets Pearl Jam and Mumford and Sons. And although many that tried their hands at converting their 80’s metal to more of an alt-grunge failed miserably, Bride did something rather unique while trying to say relevant. They not only captured the attention of critics, they managed to create an album that just gets better with age. 25 years after this album dropped (pun intended) this album just keeps getting better.   With new artwork and completely re-mastered by Rob Colwell, it’s been re-mastered and reloaded to perfection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDigging into the music you’ll first notice the album starting off rather heavy with Personal Savior and song 3 You Never Knew Me. Mandolin on Life is the Blues and the Banjos that start the second track Mamma shows the creativeness that Bride brought to this album. After listening to Mumford and Sons you would think that modern bands always used banjos and such however in 1995 there was not a banjo in-site.   How Long is reminiscent of super early AC\/DC with those slow yet heavy guitars, not the Back in Black but the ’74 Jailbreak AC\/DC with more of a grunge element. This Bride album is years of seasoned musicianship and is everything we said. Song 3, WHEN THE DAWN BREAKS THROUGH contains one of the highlights with some serious guitar shredding. Yep there are some keys and some soft spots but the guitars are thrilling on more than 1 song. This only leaves you wanting more after one pass through.  It's one of those album that you'll find yourself reaching for at just the right moment. It's raw and unapologetic both lyrically and musically. It's unclear who plays all these instruments but I have a sneaking suspicion that I know who. But I will let you decide for yourself and just see if we are jiving on the same wave length. It helps when you have Billy Smiley at the helm and David Martin, Phil Maderia doing song writing alongside. But the big surprise is you’ll actually swear you are listening to a Whiteheart album or even some reincarnation of a\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGIANT \/ WHITEHEART\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003esupergroup like Mr. Big, none of which is a bad thing. Anytime you can have members from such great bands helping you form your sound it can only be a plus. The song, 'Two Worlds Collide\", was going to be cut and recorded by the band GIANT. Since GIANT already had 14-15 songs for their album, John talked Billy into making it a JAG song. Dann Huff played all the guitars, and it became the 4th song on the album. The idea for the song The Only World In Town came from John's eight-year-old daughter. \"We were driving along and I was talking about the monopolizing phone company, saying 'they were the only game in town'. Then my daughter, who was in the back of the car, pipes up. Song 8, \"Land of the Living\" was going to be a Whiteheart song. That should give you enough reason to buy it, however there are actually 10 reasons to buy it. It's almost got a 70's feel at times and also includes a ballad Selah.  But if you wanna rock, you don't have to wait very long, only about 20 seconds into the first song ROAD TO BABYLON and those guitars start flying at you. Song 3, WHEN THE DAWN BREAKS THROUGH contains one of the highlights with some serious guitar shredding. Yep there are some keys and some soft spots but the guitars are thrilling on more than 1 song. This only leaves you wanting more after one pass through.  It's one of those album that you'll find yourself reaching for at just the right moment. It's raw and unapologetic both lyrically and musically. It's unclear who plays all these instruments but I have a sneaking suspicion that I know who. But I will let you decide for yourself and just see if we are jiving on the same wave length. The sound is not at all thin like some of the older albums tended to feel; it packs a low-end punch, giving it a massive feel in comparison. Well, I would describe it as very much full-on BLOODGOOD, mixing in some of the best of all previous releases. Metal lovers should be happier that, overall, this album would fall on the heavier side, but not so much on the faster-paced side of some older tracks. Production is top notch, making every instrument shine (and no, it does not hint of Stryper at all). The sound is not at all thin like some of the older albums tended to feel; it packs a low-end punch, giving it a massive feel in comparison. Les still has the pipes to pull this off, and the band has lost nothing in the skills department. In April 1980 in Seattle, Washington, JT meets bassist Greg Reed and guitarist David Zaffiro, who brings on board guitarist Rob Cochran, and after a jam session, The Crystal City Rockers, named after the New Jerusalem in the book of Revelation, are born. Finding their musical voice from endless jamming trying to yield original songs in the vein of REO Speedwagon, Journey, and Pink Floyd, and later in a more New Wave sound ala the Cars and the Police, The Crystal City Rockers start to gel as a band. But when Greg leaves the band and takes his PA System they were using, JT must go back to the drawing board to find not only Greg’s replacement, but also a need to purchase a PA System. Soon a demo cassette tape, with the aid of Robert Case, is recorded in 1982 and sold at concerts, but no record deal came and JT decided to leave the band to join a musical production company in Florida. David, Rob, and Craig find another drummer and continue to play concerts locally. When JT returns in 1984, he hangs out with Michael Bloodgood, who tells JT he’s starting a metal band. Soon JT and Michael enlist David Zaffiro and after jamming, they agree all the pieces gelled together well. All that was needed was a lead vocalist.
