Red Umbrella follows up their impressive debut (Wishing for Boardwalk} with an even better, more mature sophomore effort. On "Living and Surviving", Red Umbrella continues with a sound that is reminiscent of (and as good as) 70's classic rock bands, but still has a modern feel to it. Melodies and hooks are stronger than ever, and the lyrics are intellegent and thought-provoking without being too obscure. There is a nice variety of music here that is lacking in many modern releases. Some songs are definitely Beatlish (for example, the English-sounding horns on "Whisper All Your Love"), others remind one of early ELO ("Prison Side" would fit on "Face the Music"). THe musicianship and production are solid, and the band makes you ponder the question, "Will you live, or just survive?" with their God-honoring lyrics.
