SIGNUM REGIS - CHAPTER IV: THE RECKONING (2015, Ulterium)
'Chapter IV: The Reckoning' is the follow up to the very successful 'Through The Storm EP' that was released earlier this year. Signum Regis keeps improving with every release and 'Chapter IV: The Reckoning' is probably their best album so far! Perfect for fans of Helloween, Impellitteri and Theocracy!
The mastering of the album was handled by Jens Bogren [Symphony X, Opeth, Arch Enemy] and the artwork was created by Jan Yrlund [Delain, Apocalyptica, Korpiklaani].
Slovakian power metal! Back with the same line-up, The Reckoning feels much more like a pure neoclassical/European power metal experience (sounding a bit more like Stratovarius now) compared to their very diverse 6 song EP Through the Storm released earlier this year. There is a good consistency here and plenty of pace, but the vocal melodies aren?t quite as uniformly catchy this time around. One thing is for sure, they have stepped up the musical intensity/wizardry. The guitars shred with conviction, Filip Kolus doling out scorchingly fast solos (ala Yngwie) and Konig driving the low end with even a few featured bass leads. The drumming is fast and furious of course and right on par with what is expected within the genre. There are a few guest musicians as well contributing piano and guitar solos, but Mayo Petranin commands the mic this time around and his voice really shines, especially on the power ballad ?Bells are Tolling? which closes out the album in grand fashion. I really appreciate some of the slower paced songs, though, with the heavy guitar grooves ? my 2 favorite songs here definitely ?The Kingdom of Heaven? and ?The Voice In The Wilderness.? Both songs bring in those really catchy chorus melodies (think Theocracy) that were so prevalent on Through the Storm. Lyrically, those songs are also the strongest as well. Signum Regis are the real deal and along with the new releases this year by Within Silence, Millennial Reign, Diviner and Wacken Eyes Ulterium Records has given fans of great Christian metal plenty of high quality metal to enjoy this year!
