Album Description

At San Quentin (Columbia CS 9827) is Johnny Cash’s 1969 live album recorded at San Quentin State Prison. Released as the follow-up to the hugely successful At Folsom Prison, the album further solidified Cash’s outlaw image and connection with prison audiences. Backed by The Tennessee Three, Carl Perkins, and accompanied by June Carter, Cash delivers an energetic and often humorous performance filled with audience interaction and raw live intensity. The record features one of his signature songs, “A Boy Named Sue,” which became a major crossover hit and one of the defining moments of his career.
