It’s finally happening. Two of the most significant albums in early Christian rock history are getting the deluxe reissue treatment they’ve long deserved. On September 12, 2025, Girder Records will release More Than Meets the Eye (1981) and Keep No Secrets (1984) — the first time either title has ever been available on CD.

These fully remastered editions are part of our 2025 Legends of Rock™ series and feature restored audio by Rob Colwell and updated layouts from Scott Waters. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering Morgan Cryar for the first time, these are cornerstone releases that belong in every serious Christian music collection.

We recently spoke with Morgan Cryar who was overjoyed and shared his excitement and support for the Morgan Cryar reissues.

Morgan Cryar had this to say:

Hey Friends,

Way back before I signed a first recording contract, I recorded my first independent album entitled More Than Meets the Eye.  It’s been a long time coming, but I’m excited to finally see More Than Meets the Eye and Keep No Secrets (my first label album) released on CD — for the very first time. These albums have always held a special place in my heart, and to know they’re being remastered and brought back to life by Girder Records is honestly quite a gift.

When we recorded these songs, I never dreamed where they might go. I'm incredibly grateful for the memories these albums carry, and for the listeners who are still listening (as well as those who are just now discovering this music for the first time).

Big thanks to Girder for believing in these projects and giving them a fresh new life. I hope these songs bless and encourage you like they did when they were first recorded.

More Than Meets the Eye (1981)

Morgan Cryar’s debut album was a bold statement in the early days of contemporary Christian music. With its radio-ready production, deeply spiritual lyrics, and polished musicianship, More Than Meets the Eye helped shape the genre from the ground up.

Featuring the standout tracks “Black Sheep,” “Break Me Like Bread,” and the title track, this album set a new bar for what Christian pop/rock could sound like in the early ‘80s.

What sets this album apart isn’t just the songwriting—it’s the talent behind the scenes:

  • 🎤 Doug Pinnick (King’s X) delivers gritty and soulful background vocals

  • 🎶 Kemper Crabb adds earthy, medieval textures with harmonica and percussion

  • 🎸 Jerry McPherson and 🎹 Paul Mills provide tight, tasteful instrumentation

  • 🎛 Produced by Jerry McPherson

Now, over 40 years later, More Than Meets the Eye is finally getting the CD debut it deserves—fully remastered, beautifully packaged, and loaded with collector appeal.

💿 Keep No Secrets (1984)

Where Cryar’s debut was bold and fresh, Keep No Secrets revealed a more refined and introspective artist. It’s widely regarded as a fan favorite—an album that combines sharp songwriting with accessible pop/rock production and deep lyrical honesty.

The emotional centerpiece is “Holy Fire,” a moving duet with Jayne Farrell of Farrell & Farrell that still hits home today.

And if you're wondering whether this album holds up musically—the answer is a resounding yes. Consider this:

  • 🎸 Guitar work by Marty Walsh, known for playing on Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” and Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money”

  • 🎹 Arranged by John Andrew Schreiner, produced by Jonathan David Brown

  • 🎧 Digitally remastered by Rob Colwell and packaged with new artwork by Scott Waters

  • Holy Fire,” a standout track from Keep No Secrets, is a powerful duet with Jayne Farrell and was co-written by Twila Paris.

From the upbeat opener “I Get Carried Away” to tracks like “Someone to Change Me” and “Just a Little Like You,” Cryar delivers a record full of heart, hooks, and hope.

You Need to Know This Producer, Here's Why!

Jonathan David Brown (Producer) was one of the most influential producers in the history of Contemporary Christian Music, shaping the sound of the genre throughout the 1980s. He is best known for producing Petra’s most iconic run of albums—Never Say Die, More Power to Ya, Not of This World, Beat the System, and the live album Captured in Time and Space—which helped define Christian rock and earned widespread acclaim, including Grammy nominations. Brown also played a pivotal role in launching Twila Paris’s career, producing a string of her landmark albums including Keepin’ My Eyes on You, The Warrior Is a Child, and Kingdom Seekers. His credits also include Steve Taylor’s groundbreaking debut I Want to Be a Clone and Bob Bennett’s Matters of the Heart, which was named CCM Magazine’s Album of the Year. Through these and many other projects, Brown not only crafted a sound but shaped a movement, leaving a lasting legacy on the landscape of faith-based music.
