DeGarmo and Key 6 Remastered Albums Get Coveted Girder Treatment
Mission of Mercy (1983) is quintessential `80's synth/rock/pop. No band, Christian or secular, did it any better. Combined with incredibly talented support musicians Tommy Cathey (bass) and Greg Morrow (drums), with Steven V. Taylor (guitars) joining for live concerts, DeGarmo and Key set the bar high, very high, for the rest of the music world to try to reach. I absolutely love this opening track, Ready or Not.
COMMUNICATION
Communication released in 1984 and was an exhilarating experience as they became the first Christian group to have a music video appear on MTV. The video "Six, Six,Six", became the first song to be placed in MTV's regular rotation. The video was pulled due to violent content. MTV had misinterpreted the song "Six, Six, Six" as an anti-Christian statement. Executive Sandra Sparrow was unaware that DeGarmo & Key were a Christian band when she included the video in a list of videos to be banned. MTV allowed them to submit a re-edited version without the Antichrist being set on fire. I'm not sure if it's even possible to not like the song SIX SIX SIX after that experience.
COMMANDER SOZO
Commander Sozo and the Charge of the Light Brigade was released in 1985 with one of the longest names in in Christian Rock history but was also accompanied with one of the longest tenures an album has sat on Christian charts. Songs Destin to Win and Casual Christian (both on this release) were the top two most requested songs from the band. Destin to Win was a duo with the great Jesse Dixon and made its way into the ears of every Christian radio station listener not to mention onto every D&K best of album made, History Makers, The Very Best Of, Greatest Hits Vol. 1, The Classic Rock Collection and even on Rock Solid Absolutely Live.
STREETLIGHT
Released in 1986 on Power Discs Records, Street Light was the band’s seventh studio album and many fans label it their favorite album. Following the previous more keyboard driven albums, Street Light brings the band closer to their earlier rock roots. It features the Christian radio hit, “Every Moment,” a Springsteen-esque rocker that stayed at #1 for six weeks in 1986. The album also features a remake of the song “Addey,” which first appeared on their debut album, This Time Thru, but this version has all the makings of what a hit song should be.
D&K, originally released in 1987, was simply the acronym as well as the initials for Eddie DeGarmo and Dana Key. It was the perfect album that fit right inline with everything coming out in the mid 80's. Firing on all cylinders, D&K was a real rocker that started out with the upbeat and loud Out of the Danger Zone that molded right into the second song Under the Sun another huge hit. The guitars sounded perfect and very Bostonesque at least in that rockman like guitar sound. If you are unaware of the Rockman, it was invented by Bostons' own Tom Schloz and a ton fo bands used the pocket size effect to get that perfect guitar sound, a blend of distortion, chorus and reverb. The 3rd song Rock Solid, was exactly what it professed, a solid rockin' sound with lyrics that left no one guessing where they stood. This album is pure rock candy with all the hooks, anthems and power of a 1987 album. Now in a 12 page booklet jewel case with LTD collectors card with cool black cover with reversible original white cover.
THE PLEDGE
The Pledge was released in 1989 and included hit after hit. It's anthem like music is ear-candy and contains some of their best songs. Both Boycott Hell and I'm Accepted are both listed as the 3rd and 4th most streamed DeGarmo and Key songs proving that this album is as mature as it is timeless. If you want pure pop AOR ear candy this is a must grab. Fans of Petra, Steve Camp, Whiteheart and Geoff Moore are going to love this.
