Album Description

Now, There Was a Song! is a 1960 studio album by Johnny Cash, released on Columbia Records. The record is largely built around Cash’s interpretations of classic country standards written by some of the genre’s most influential songwriters, including Hank Williams and others from the honky-tonk tradition. Compared to his earlier Sun Records material, this album leans more toward traditional Nashville country styling while still retaining Cash’s stripped-down vocal delivery and storytelling focus. It serves as both a tribute to the songs that shaped country music and a showcase of Cash’s ability to reinterpret them with his own distinct voice.
