Very few bands have had more than one lead singer in which the later singers saw as much, if not more, success than the previous. Those exceptions would be Sammy Hagar of Van Halen, Brian Johnson of AC/DC, Dio with Black Sabbath and John Schlitt with Petra. Back To the Street, John's first album with the band and their 8th overall album, gave PETRA new life and even more success than they could have dreamed of garnering a Grammy™ Nomination for best Gospel Group (1987) and a long line of Dove Awards and Grammy™ Awards to come. When you start this strong you are either doomed for failure or as in John's situation, you have something to prove. The band was stronger and tighter thanks to the work of producers John and Dino Elefante, who demanded excellence if they were going to stamp their name on it. Petra fans were delighted. Melodic Rock with guitar hooks, catchy lyrics, soaring vocals, AOR ear-candy like no other. The new vocalist fit like a hand in a glove. It was strong musically, and powerful lyrically. Everything about this album just worked.

Absolutely sublime remastering of an absolute classic Petra album

Back to the Street has always been my favourite ever Petra record. Shakin' The House has long been my favourite Petra song. Whole World is one of my favourite anthem songs of Petra too. And to be able to listen to this amazing album sonically enhanced is absolutely amazing. There is so much in the mix that one couldn't really make out in the original Star Song releases.
The whole album has been vastly improved sonically, Girder guys certainly know how to make Petra fans smile so broadly!
This album too has a lot of power to it message wise, from excellent worship stonkers like You are I Am to the beautiful ballad of Jesus's suffering King's Ransom which must be a firm contender for one of Petra's most lovely and touching songs of the depth of Christ's love for us all.
I must also stand up (pun intended!) for the songs Another Crossroad, Run for Cover and Altar Ego too. I have always heard these songs come in for the dissing treatment of "filler track", and to me they are no such thing. Every song is musically inventive, spiritually moving and thought provoking too. These songs are just as good as the more well known Petra hits.
And considering this was John Schlitt's first album with Petra his vocal range is immediately amazing and so strong. He most assuredly was a wonderful replacement for Greg Volz. Petra's lead singers have always been so gifted.
That is why this album remains my favourite. Fool's Gold too has the best ever lyrics to any Petra song too. Amazing!

Forget your Starsong copy

Girder has made this lifelong Petra fan happy once again! If there was one album I always felt had been forgotten in the ability to put rock on a CD it was this one. Oddly enough the best sound one could get was actually off of the vinyl record. So for years it was either play the record, or suffer through the less inspiring sound of the CD. The remaster of this one is a definite win! Love the extra effort on the packaging and the collectors card as well. This (as well as the other Petra releases) are nothing short of a dream come true. Never did I imagine this! Forget your head-phones, order the CD, the record (pre-order) or both, and listen to it!

Getting Back To Back To The Street

I always loved this album, but the copies I had always seemed to lack something sonically. This allowed me to finally get the whole thing on CD and I was amazed at just how good this 35 year old recording is. There is a lot going on in the mixes that I had never heard. And of course the repackaging is first rate. Thanks for giving this project the treatment it deserves...

WOW!!

This one as always been my favorite Petra album after Greg Volz. It sounds sounds so great! You guys have out did yourself on this one. Not to take anything away from all the other great CDs you guys have done. Cannot wait to see what else you guys bring. Keep up the great work!

Petra Back To The Street

This was an album I never had so I was really glad when Girder released it. Sound is fantastic and like On Fire the packaging is superb. I highly recommend this album to anyone that doesn’t have it (or even if you do!)
