The Undertaking!’s debut full-length album, Funeral Psalms, is a force to be reckoned with. Overflowing with energy and passion, this album delivers a visceral experience from start to finish. It's not polished for easy listening, but that’s the beauty of it—embracing noise rock and punk influences, Funeral Psalms is an album that thrives on raw intensity.

From moments of melodic softness to the sheer chaos of distorted vocals, Funeral Psalms pushes the boundaries of conventional rock, creating a unique sound that doesn’t conform to any genre. The album's strength lies not in its technical precision but in its ability to capture the pain, introspection, and growth that comes from life’s toughest lessons.

Tracks like “I Really Don’t Want to Be Here” encapsulate the anxiety and restless energy that define this record. Lyrics like “All my friends are scavengers, ripping to the bones” reveal a raw vulnerability that’s both captivating and gut-wrenching. Every note and word comes from a place of authenticity, making this album an emotional rollercoaster for the listener.

Funeral Psalms isn’t just an album—it’s a cathartic experience. The Undertaking! has crafted a collection of songs that reflect the human condition in all its imperfections, and in doing so, they’ve created a space where we can all find a little piece of ourselves.

MORE ON THE STYLE OF THISE  MUSIC

he Undertaking! – Funeral Psalms is an album by the indie folk band The Undertaking! that blends elements of folk, post-rock, and experimental music with themes of grief, death, and existential reflection. The album’s tone is somber and introspective, often leaning into minimalist arrangements that create an ethereal, haunting atmosphere. There’s an emphasis on melancholic melodies, with lush, layered instrumentation and a slightly dark, cinematic quality.

The band’s sound can be compared to artists like Low, Explosions in the Sky, or Mogwai, but with a more folksy and lyrical approach. The music has a slow burn, with some tracks building in intensity, while others stay sparse and quiet, allowing the emotional weight of the lyrics to come through more powerfully. It’s a reflective, almost meditative record that explores deep themes of mortality, legacy, and the passage of time, but it does so with a tenderness that offers moments of beauty even in the sadness.

The album title itself, Funeral Psalms, signals the contemplative nature of the work—it's a kind of musical ritual, a reflection on loss and the process of moving through it, expressed with subtlety and elegance. If you enjoy music that mixes folk with atmospheric, post-rock elements and has a contemplative, almost spiritual feel, this album would likely resonate with you.
