Album Description
Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian is a 1964 concept album by Johnny Cash, released on Columbia Records. The record focuses on the history, struggles, and mistreatment of Native American peoples in the United States, making it one of the most socially conscious projects of Cash’s early career. Written largely by folk artist Peter La Farge, the album blends traditional country arrangements with powerful narrative storytelling. At the time of release, it was controversial and not initially well-promoted, but it has since been recognized as an important early protest album in American music history.
