Not as thorough or as representative as Hip-O's 2003 version of Greatest Hits, 20th Century Masters (also, strangely, released via Hip-O) keeps it short and sweet with a dozen tracks, most of which date back to Mötley Crüe's '80s output. The compilation begins its downhill slide at "Rock 'n' Roll Junkie," the band's contribution to the Ford Fairlane soundtrack. And then, with the likes of "Anarchy in the U.K.," "Generation Swine," and "Hell on High Heels," the disc is made all the more negligible. Rather than choose worthier songs from the earlier and more popular albums, Hip-O opted to be too fair to the later albums. [20th Century Masters was reissued in 2005 as Classic Mötley Crüe]. ~ Andy Kellman,
