    Product Description

More Power to Ya was Petra's fifth album and the album that changed everything.  Previously sounding similar to Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Eagles, with some laid back Southern Rock vibes, Petra had been working out the bugs to perfect a polished progressive-rock sound. Petra finally crafted a style that could easily lock horns with anything on the industry charts and stand toe to toe with bands like Styx, Boston, and Journey. Their new progressive(ish) rock sound began receiving attention from the mainstream music industry.  In case you wondered if this was a significant change, BILLBOARD dubbed More Power to Ya a "Top Album Pick" and praised the band's "surging music, tough lyrics and effective vocals."

Hot on the heels of the success of Never Say Die, Petra's return featured an even more polished production, intentional and disciplined composition, and a sweeping scale. More Power to Ya rivaled mainstream albums by groups like Journey, Boston, or Styx in style and sound, but brought an unabashed message of encouragement to Christian listeners. Christian radio had a field day with the title track, while rock fans thrilled to the stripped-down riff (and creepy backwards message) of “Judas’ Kiss.” “Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows” dared to challenge complacency within the church, while “The Road To Zion” struck an epic, almost Zeppelinesque tone both lyrically and musically. More Power to Ya checked all the boxes, rose to even higher sales levels, and saw Petra become one of the biggest touring spectacles in Christian music.

    ABOUT THE REISSUE

Although this album was released nine years ago as a 25th Anniversary Edition in 2012, it lacked the punch, low-end, and definition that remastering now affords, leaving fans wanting more. But now in the hands of Rob Colwell, it is truly a masterpiece and sounds new, fresh and somehow relevant, again.

    Bob Hartman – Guitar
Greg X. Volz – Lead vocals

Petra got its start in 1972 as one of the pioneers of Christian Rock.  Now 20 albums later with 4 Grammys™ and 10 Dove Awards™, they are the World’s Most Popular Christian Rock Band.  It didn't matter if you were listening to Deliverance, Amy Grant, and Michael W. Smith, one thing is for certain, you knew who Petra was.  Even Stryper fans would never enter into a debate on who the greatest Christian Rock Band of all time was.  Although Stryper may have been large in the mainstream, no one came close to Petra in the Christian circuit selling 10 MILLION records and selling out large capacity arenas. Their impact was monstrous and their music was explosive.  Their albums More Power to Ya, Beat the System, and This Means War! rock like none other and were clear defining moments for a band that just a few albums earlier had everyone convinced that they would be a status-quo CCM act.  Nothing was further from the truth.

As Petra soared to new heights with Greg X. Volz, Bob Hartman and Louie Weaver, More Power to Ya was THAT defining album that broke down all the barriers of what an effective ministry focused rock band could be, embracing backward masking (If you know, you know).  Look no further than the powerful rockers “Second Wind” and “Judas’ Kiss” for songs that defined a generation.

By the time Beat the System hit the speakers, fans knew that these guys had no interest in just another record, they embodied an attitude that said, "Let's break down barriers and do something relevant" by moving more towards a keyboard driven rock act. With songs like “Computer Brains,” “Witch Hunt,” and “It Is Finished,” the band included sampling and effects not found on their other records along with a sense of urgency in every song, slowing the heavy tempo for only two songs: “Adonai” and “Hollow Eyes.”

This Means War! dropped four years later, ushering in a new era, with new vocalist John Schlitt (formerly of the rock band Head East) in his prime. The band knew after their debut record with Schlitt, when everyone thought they were on their way out, that a hard rock/arena rock record was want everyone wanted and exactly what producers John and Dino Elefante could deliver and did they ever.  Just speaking with John Elefante a few days ago, he reminded me that they had a top hit on all 4 major charts at the same time which helped them amass a large following of converts, Dove Awards, and Grammys.

Girder Music is proud to bring these rock classics back in remastered deluxe editions on both vinyl and CD so fans can rediscover just what made these albums so pivotal in the history of CCM, as well as introduce them to those who may have missed these iconic releases the first time around.

“More Power to Ya” is another one of Petra’s awesome albums from the early 80s, you probably already love it. I also have the Girder cd reissue and both sound great—this feels like it could have been recorded yesterday. I’m hearing subtleties and even whole pets that hadn’t been as pronounced before. The whole album is more alive and forward while still being the same album we’ve loved for 40 years. These remasters are a dream come true for us Petra fans!

This album has never sounded better! The drums and keyboards are more defined. When I was reading the description for this item, I was afraid that the remastering would change too much, and that it wouldn't sound right. However, I was wrong! It still sounds like More Power to Ya! The changes I found don't hinder the listening experience. A very welcome change is that the songs are all the same general volume. This means that you don't have to finish listening to the title track and crank up the volume just so you can hear Judas' Kiss. On top of that, it has the quality you can expect vinyl to have 41 years after the album released. I think it's important to remember that this (along with Girder's other vinyl records) comes in mint condition. You won't have to worry about scratches or scuffs, because this has never been played. Much better than treasure hunting on eBay for decent quality and price! Along those same lines, you have no idea how the eBay seller will pack the vinyl. Girder, however, packs them extremely cautiously so that there's no way your vinyl will come damaged. The vinyl is in a box, covered by cardboard, which is inside another box! I 100% recommend this album. (Note: My review for this item sounds almost identical to other reviews. My opinion is the same for all of them.)

    Excellent pressing!

The pressing sounds great - really clean and quiet. The mastering job is well done and really treats the music well. Girder's prep of the art is fantastic. The colors are great, and the lines are clean on the cover, labels, inner sleeve, and the poster. Really pleased that the outer sleeve is sized to easily allow the record to be inserted or removed. Fantastic job. This has all been the case for all of Girder's Petra vinyl represses I have purchased (Never Say Die! through Beat The System).

    Exceeds Expectations… again

    I’ll keep it simple:
    Buying it to display?
Girder went full stop on this record, EVERYTHING is quality from the record, sleeves and jacket.
    Buying it to play?
Hooked it up to my midrange level setup (Audio-technica turntable with Yahama receiver/speakers) and sound is clear and full with great separation.
If you are considering getting these Petra records for either reason, quit thinking and just do it.

    Absolutely stunning !

For any Petra fan this is a must have. Even if you already own an original issue of this album because the original suffers by comparison to this one. Vinyl looks like a piece of candy !! Who doesn't like watching blue vinyl spin while jamming out to Second Wind?? Artwork is superb and the sound quality is top notch. Thanks for doing this for us Greg, we appreciate what you do.
