This Girder Records Legends of Rock™ has been completely remastered. This release come in a jewel case with multi-page booklet insert that includes readable lyrics, photos, liner notes. It also comes with a special LTD edition collectors trading card sealed inside, limited to only the first pressing.

Petra left an indelible mark on teenagers all over the world throughout the 80's. Bob Hartman (founder) and Greg X. Volz and band dropped 6 elite albums from 1979-1986. However Petra's Captured In Time and Space, which was released in 1986, would be the last for Greg X Volz and the end of an era as John Schlitt would join Petra as new lead vocalist latter that same year.

Usually live albums are not favorites among fans, unless of course you were privileged enough to be in the crowd (then you tell everyone you know, "I was at that show"). However this album for so many of us left an impression not much different from the studio recordings. Everything about it was great. The sound quality is great and it contains all their top hits, a 3-song Rock Medley as well as a Mellow Medley and a guitar, Drum and Keyboard solo, literally everything you want from a great live performance and none of the stuff you don't want.

One of the odd things about this project is that it was a combination of 3 live performances (shown below). The cassette version and DVD contained an additional song called THE GREAT I AM, which came towards the end of Invitation (Track 30) that wasn't on the original 2xLP Vinyl or CD. It wasn't a great or memorable song (IMO) as it had more of a gospel music feel to it. We know that might be important to some people, so you can still hear that song on the DVD, but we were not able to alter the audio for the CD due to contract limitation with our license with Capital Christian Music.

Captured In Time & Space......and my heart

Simply put, this in one of the best live albums ever recorded in Christian rock music. Going in, I was quite familiar with the entire album from start to finish. And I can tell you, to my ears, this one is every bit what the original was, except that the additional volume of data packed onto the CD makes the transitions/edits seem "almost" like they aren't there. I pretty much know where most of them are due to my knowledge of the songs, and my familiarity with the live DVD. But I am betting the casual listener will not, nor will it matter. They have packed as much music into this live CD as they possibly can, for the time in which it was originally recorded. That is a credit to the pre-planning, post-production editing, and also to the overall vision for the project. I cannot hear any mis-steps in the vocals, guitars, drums, or keys. If anything, I only wish they had mic'd the crowd slightly less. It's not that I don't enjoy the audience enthusiasm - it's just that I enjoy the performance even more. // There is no question in my mind you should pick this up and re-celebrate these Legends Of Rock. It's perfect to add to your own collection, or to give to a friend who enjoys classic Christian rock music. // The packaging is superb, including enhanced embossing. The lyrics are included for reference, and so are the scripture verses. // All-around, it's a 10 out of 10!

Captured in Time and Space is quality!

I had this double vinyl back in the 80s, but have (unfortunately) misplaced it. Girder has put some of their quality work into the graphics and sound quality of the disc. The liner notes and the trading card have vibrant colors and sharp graphics. The CD itself has some pretty good sound quality.

My biggest gripe has nothing to do with Girder's work here, but with the original recording. There are a lot of abrupt cuts between takes. I think they would have done better with fading in and out of tracks instead.

I really regret that I was never able to see Greg X. Volz with the band. He sounds like he was a pretty good entertainer and his lead vocals are pretty great live. Being the mid '80s everyone was overusing synth and keyboard technology and that is on full display here. Some of it is very fun while it might seem a little tiresome after a while.

All in all I have enjoyed revisiting this album even though live albums aren't usually my favorite formats.
